Sedimentation: After coagulation, the water is allowed to settle in a large tank called a sedimentation basin. The floc particles, being heavier than water, settle at the bottom of the tank due to gravity. This process helps remove larger particles, including dirt, sand, and other sediments.

Filtration: In this phase, the water passes through various filtration media to remove smaller suspended particles that were not removed during sedimentation. The filtration media can include layers of sand, gravel, activated carbon, or specialized membranes. These media physically trap and adsorb particles and contaminants as water passes through them.

Disinfection: Once the water has been filtered, it undergoes disinfection to eliminate harmful microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, and parasites. Common disinfection methods include chlorination, where chlorine is added to the water to kill pathogens, or ultraviolet (UV) disinfection, where UV light is used to destroy microorganisms.

pH Adjustment: In some cases, the pH level of water may need to be adjusted to make it more suitable for consumption. pH adjustment can be done by adding specific chemicals, such as lime or soda ash, to raise the pH or by adding acids to lower the pH. Maintaining an appropriate pH level is important for the taste and overall quality of the water.

Additional Treatment (optional): Depending on the specific water source and quality, additional treatment steps may be required. These can include processes like activated carbon adsorption, ion exchange, or advanced oxidation to remove specific contaminants or improve water quality further.

Storage and Distribution: Once the water has been treated, it is stored in reservoirs or tanks before being distributed to consumers. During distribution, the water may pass through pipelines or be pumped into individual households or communities.
